Excellent option to spend a day in Orlando, away from the hustle and wait of the Disney/Universal parks. We spent a day in the first week of Jan this year (2013) with the kids (aged 9 & 13). We had booked the full option - so this included the dolphin experience as well. We reached the park around 9.30 AM. The weather predictions until the previous night had called for rains, so we were somewhat worried.

But luckily, the rain gods decided to take a pass that whole day! After a decent breakfast (all included in the price), all of us got into the provided vests & wet suits and jumped into the warm 'tropical river'. I just wore the vest - which turned out to be quite comfortable as the water was quite warmed up - almost bath-tub like! The river is a narrow, winding & slow moving canal around the park.

There are the occasional deep zones with fun 'waterfalls' through which you can swim through. The deep zones are quite short in length, so even kids who are not all that comfortable in deep water can use a 'noodle' or life jacket to swim thru.

The river passes thru an aviary, so you are surrounded by a nice variety of tropical birds at that point. Our dolphin experience was at 12.45, so we made for the 'reef' about 30 mins before. The reef area is somewhat small, but filled with a decent variety of fishes.

There's even a shark tank (protected by a glass wall!), that you can snorkel/swim aside. Snorkels for adults and kids are provided as well, so we put them on and snorkeled in the colder reef waters for about 15 mins before going on our dolphin experience. The dolphin interaction was probably the best part of the day. The instructors are all very knowledgable and showed their obvious affection for these amazing creatures. The kids got to pet and kiss the dolphins, and finally got a short ride handing on to their fins. The dolphin interaction part lasts about 30 - 45 mins (including sign-in, the introductory video, etc.). The instructors do an awesome job of working with smaller kids with minimal swimming experience as well.

After that, we had our lunch, and then jumped back into the reef for more snorkeling action. But the warmer 'river' waters soon beckoned us, so we finished up an awesome day there.

Summary - It's a bit expensive, but absolutely worth the money - Weather forecasts are very unpredictable, so don't get put off. And the usual short-lived tropical rains should still be ok, after all you ARE in water most of the time. The dophin interaction experience is top-class. Snorkeling is so so: its an artifical reef after all! But a good way to introduce kids to snorkeling. The windy river with its beaches, caves and waterfalls is awesome - A great time-out from the usual park trips in Orlando.

Well, after spending the day before at Universal Islands of Adventure, I can tell you that I will NEVER go to Florida again without visiting Discovery Cove. We arrived around 7:45am and got great free parking. We entered the lobby area where we were greeted by a staff member who happily showed us to the computer person who helped us check in. We were issued photo badges, which can be used to charge souveniers all day long, as long as you have your credit card with you. After being checked in, we were escorted out the doors and taken to Roger. He explained everything you can imagine about what we would experience during the day. It had such a personal touch from beginning to end.

We paid $229 a person for the ticket, which included a complimentary group picture, the dolphin swim, 9 hours of relaxing in the lazy river (85 degrees and noodles provided), great reef full of tropical fish and sting rays (all have stinger removed, so no worries), bird feeding sanctuary, another pool (88 degrees) with monkeys and otters around it, unlimited frozen alchoholic drinks, beer, pop, snacks, buffet breakfast and lunch, towels, snorkel (you keep) with mask (you return), hot showers with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. We also paid the extra $200 for the Ultimate Picture Package, which included 7 6x8 photos, 1 4x6 photo, 2 wallets, 2 keychains with photos, 1 poster, Discovery Cove photo album for your pictures, a picture CD of all pictures taken throughout the day (anytime you see photographer, ask them to take your picture), and the DVD of the dolphin swim experience. You can copy the CD and DVD to your own computer so you only need one picture package. You can also print from the CD at any local printing place or your own home.

The photographer we had was amazing. She took so many pictures. I have over 480 pictures on my CD.

Our group of 10 was asked to split up for the dolphin swim at the beginning of check in because they only have 8 people per group, however when we assembled for our video before the dolphin swim, they offered to take us all in one larger group. That was such a blessing and I cannot thank Discovery Cove enough for that. To have our entire family together for this amazing experience is priceless. The entire day was the most relaxing and fantastic day of our vacation. I would love to go back, and I will. Thank you Discovery Cove. You have a customer for life!!!

It was a great experience and a great way to spend a day. We booked the day before we went so all of the swim with the dolphin tickets were sold out.:'( Even though we didn't get to swim with the dolphin, we still had a really great time.
